Target Audience 3

Scientific American's audience median age is 44 years old and 59% of their audience is between the ages of 25 and 54, which is similar to our target audience. Our magazines are also of the same topics (science and technology). Scientific American has a website where they post articles on topics under science and technology. They also have a "blogs" tab and a subscription tab where you can subscribe to their magazine. Also, as soon as the website loads a pop-up ad comes up where it asks you to subscribe as well. They also have featured offers and articles to read as well as a "follow us" section where they give links to all of their other digital medias including YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. They also have billboards and other forms of print media to advertise. This shows Scientific American using a billboard to market their magazine. This is their Instagram where you can see a link in their bio which leads to their website wh...

The Smithsonian has a similar target audience as our magazine. Their median age is 44 which is similar to ours and our magazines are both about science and technology. The Smithsonian uses multiple types of media to advertise. One way is digitally, they have a website  where they post articles, news, photos, videos, and even has games to engage their audience with what they want and need to know, and also gives inspirational ideas, insights, and information. They also have a tab where you can subscribe to their magazine or shop their merchandise. They also have a place where you can sign up for their newsletter as well where they email you on new topics and special offers. They also have billboards, advertisements on other companies such as AdWeek, and posters across the country. Lastly, they also hold events once in a while to get their name out. Some examples of this is Future Con in April, Museum Day in September, and an award ceremony they h...

Target Audience 1

The target audience for my partner and I's technology magazine is ranged 25-54 years of age to people around the world.           National Geographic has a similar target audience as we do. 52.1% of their audience are between the ages of 25 and 54. Our magazines are of similar contents, National Geographic is about science and technology and so is ours, however ours leans more towards modern technology and science. National Geographic uses is on most social media platforms and is very active on them. They post about the photographers and reporters views and thoughts on the new articles. An example is shown below. They say it gives users a reason to follow them on social media. They also say it is a good way to be more casual, conversational, and appealing towards their audience to stay relevant. Obviously, this is working considering they have one of the highest followings and have been around for  far over 100 years. Here you can see a post on Inst...

A final change I plan on doing is having more variety in my photographs. On my article, I have only pictures of the inside of the malls and how vacant it is which lacks variety. On my revision post added an image of the outside of one of the main malls that is closing down to make the article pop more. I think the new image's warmth is a much better fit and is more colorful for the reader. On the left below is before, and the right is after I made the change.

Another revision that needs to be made is on the front cover. The main featured article is hard to see because of the white font on top of the light background. I plan to add a black outline around the font to make it easily readable. The left is the old cover design and on the right is the new one. I added a black outline to the text, but also moved the main article to the left side of the cover to make it look less empty. Also, we had to change the font, AR DESTINE, because Microsoft Publisher does not support or have this font anymore. It also fits the page more, but I like the design of the previous font.

The feedback given was overall very positive, however there were a few small problems that I had made. One was the page numbers were on the same side of the page where the second page's number should be moved so they are on the outside bottom margins where they can both be seen. Below I moved the page number and branding to the left side of the first page, so when it is opened, they are on the outside corners.

Use of Conventions

The title of my magazine was located at the top of the page with the featured articles on the left hand side because I found this is how most articles are laid out. The font and size of the text was very large and bold for the reader to easily read it and for it to stand out. I also made the background an image of my most featured article because this is also what magazines do.      For the table of contents page, I put it on page 3 which is a usual location for it. I also wrote the featured articles, a short description, and the page number of the article because I found this was done on every magazine I had researched. I also placed a few photos showing the basis of the magazine as well and what it was mostly about.      For the article, I made the title large and wrote the author, me, underneath. I also put pictures throughout the article as well because this is also what is conventionally done. Overall, I tried to mimic the format ...
